Jo Ann Marsh of Greensboro and Wendy Nuckles Barham of Colfax have received the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential by passing online medical assistant courses. Both are graduates of online medical assistant courses at GTCC. Marsh is employed by HealthServe Medical Center, and Barham works at Deluxe Check Printers.
Samuel L. Tyson, M.D., eye physician and surgeon, has announced his new office location of Piedmont Eye Center at 510 N. Elam Ave., Suite 303. Tyson began practicing ophthalmology in Greensboro in 2003, offering general ophthalmology services, glaucoma management, small incision cataract surgery with lens implant, and diabetic eye disease.
Two City of Greensboro employees have received statewide recognition for their work in the city's Solid Waste Management Division. Nancy Jimerson, a residential solid waste inspector, and Melvin Goodwin, solid waste collection superintendent, have been named recipients of awards presented by the American Public Works Association.
Jimerson, a city employee for 17 years, received the Herman Drake Award, which is named for a long-time sanitation superintendent in Rocky Mount. Public works employees statewide are nominated for the award each year based on their contributions to their department, their qualities and their drive for self-improvement. Goodwin, who has worked for the city since 1992, received the N.C. Chapter's Robert S. Hopson award. This award recognizes a state public works official at the supervisory level for outstanding service and meritorious achievement in local government service. Jarinda McNair has been named public relations/marketing assistant for Anderson & Associates, a Greensboro civil engineering, surveying and planning firm. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations from N.C. A&T and is a former employee of WFMY-TV. Two staff members of the Center for Creative Leadership have been named vice presidents, and another has been promoted to head the center's branch operations in Greensboro. Pamela S. Mayer, previously director of the center's Greensboro branch, was appointed vice president. Jodi Taylor, former director of the center's Colorado Springs branch, also was named vice president. Lily M. Kelly-Radford, formerly program director and manager of the s Leadership Development Program, is now director of the center's Greensboro branch. Mayer, who has been with the center for five years, will oversee the Brussels, Belgium, branch and the Learning Systems Application Group. She will also head up an expanded planning function for the center. Mayer is certified as a psychologist in Florida and North Carolina and holds a Ph.D. from the University of South Florida.
